The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) says it is extremely disappointed that today’s salary negotiations meeting with the Ministry of Finance did not go ahead as planned.

The JTA says the meeting was postponed on the request of the ministry and has been rescheduled to Monday morning.

The association says it anticipates that this delay is an indication that the Government is considering a significantly improved offer to teachers.

The JTA has rejected the government’s offer of six per cent over two years.

The meeting was called after the JTA expressed dissatisfaction with the delay in resuming the wage talks.

The JTA had given the Government an ultimatum to make an improved wage offer to prevent the activation of the association’s Action Committee.

It said that committee would determine what action, if any, teachers would take to press home their demands for a better offer.
