East Prospect residents want face lift for Christmas

Christmas is weeks away and folks, whether in community groups or just within the family, are pooling resources and time to beautify their surroundings for the holiday celebrations.

But the citizens of the East Prospect Housing Scheme in St Thomas are worried that their community will not get the facelift it needs in time for the season's festivities.

Caswell Rodney, a long-time resident of the area, told Rural Xpress that the entrance to the gated community is a disaster, as the roads have been dug up by rains and have worsened with the ongoing inclement weather. "It's a nice community, but this has been going on for too long and we, the citizens of phase one, two and three are appealing to our councillor Michael Hue to urgently do some repairs to the entrance," he said, adding that this would be a well-needed Christmas gift.

Rodney pointed out that things are not perfect with the scheme where road is concerned, but noted that the residents' major cry right now is for the fixing of their gateway. "There is a crater, at the entrance of the scheme, a big crater, and around it are various potholes. It really stay bad," he lamented.

He said residents will suffice with some patching work. "We know that the scheme is the property of the National Housing Trust, but the road has always been maintained by the St Thomas Municipal Corporation, so we are calling on Mr Hue to address this as soon as possible," Rodney said.

He explained that the residents plan to repaint the walls of the entrance and to beautify it with flowers, but these efforts would seem foolish if the gateway remains in a deplorable state. "We are also planning on cleaning the kerbs and the channels, but we are pleading for the gateway to be fixed, for which we would be very grateful," Rodney said.
