Police vehicle mobbed, damaged during attempts to capture Westmoreland's most wanted man

There was high drama in Grange Hill, Westmoreland Friday afternoon during attempts by the police to place into custody the parish's most wanted man.

A police service vehicle was damaged after irate residents demanded the release of Davion "Baltie" Brown, who reportedly ran into the path of an unmarked police vehicle on patrol and was hit.

Reports are that the police team in the patrol vehicle was in the process of assisting Brown when an object wrapped in a multi-coloured handkerchief was found in his right front pocket.

It was removed and found to be an illegal chrome and black Taurus 9-millimetre pistol with five live rounds.

It was during the exchange that the lawmen discovered that it was Brown, who is wanted for the daylight killing of a man in a supermarket on Great George's Street in Savanna-La-Mar in August.

He is also wanted for several other serious crimes in the parish, including shooting at the police.

The cops accosted Brown and in their bid to drive away from the scene, came under attack from residents who demanded that they release him.

The residents hurled stones and other missiles at the unmarked service vehicle which was damaged during the melee.

This resulted in shots being fired into the air to disperse the unruly crowd.

Brown was subsequently taken to the Savanna-La-Mar hospital for treatment before being taken into custody.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has been notified of the incident.
