Two firearms with 19 rounds of ammunition were seized by the police in St James yesterday, bringing to six the number of illegal guns seized in less than 48 hours.

The police say two men were taken into custody in connection with the seizure, but their identities are being withheld pending further investigations.

It’s reported that a police team was conducting spot checks along the Anchovy main road shortly after midday when they signalled the driver of a motorcar to stop.

According to the police, the driver, a male passenger and the vehicle were searched and the guns found.

Also, three firearms including an AK-47 rifle, and 40 assorted rounds of ammunition were seized in separate incidents in St Catherine and Manchester yesterday.

The other firearm was seized in Clarendon on Friday.
