The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Association of Postgraduate Students (MAPS) hosted its third annual corporate mingle last Friday at the medical sciences faculty on the campus.

The event saw a wide range of persons in attendance, with mostly graduate students and a few undergraduates being present. Corporate Jamaica was represented, and the guest speaker, Elon Parkinson, regional head of public relations for the Digicel Group, spoke on the benefits of networking.

The university represented well, with top-level staff, including Minna Israel, special advisor to the vice-chancellor on resource development and Sandra Powell-Mangaroo, assistant registrar for the school of graduate studies and research, in attendance.

The event was organised by the MAPS committee, which is spearheaded by Coswayne Samms. The vice president of the UWIMona Guild of students, Nicholas James, plays a vital role.

This corporate mingle has been the signature social event for MAPS over the last few years, and has grown, as each year, more students and corporate personnel are present. Several persons have met partners, employers, and employees at this networking event over the years. It has also bridged a gap between students and administrations, as before, students considered administrators unapproachable.

The patrons enjoyed signature drinks from the main sponsor Appleton Signature Blend, as well as complimentary food.
