Completion of Cornwall Regional renovation delayed, to cost just under $2 billion
Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton says it will cost just under $2 billion to refurbish the problem-plagued Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay, St James .
Addressing the Standing Finance Committee of Parliament last night, Tufton said the completion date has also been pushed back to November because of the greater than expected work that has to be done on the Type One health facility.
The Health Minister explained that the acquisition of the new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system accounts for the majority of the cost.
According to Tufton, the problem with the ventilation system arose because the hospital started to use a system that had been out of use for sometime.
He said it resulted in the release of obnoxious fumes into the building.
