Mexico to help Jamaica in fight against gun, ammunition transhipment

The Mexican government has offered to help Jamaica with stemming the transhipment of guns and ammunition.

Mexican Foreign Secretary Dr Luis Videgaray made the announcement following bilateral talks with key government ministers and Prime Minister Andrew Holness at Jamaica House.

Addressing a joint press conference with Jamaica's Foreign Minister Kamina Johnson Smith yesterday, the Mexican Foreign Secretary said security is a major concern for both countries whose high crime rates are driven by cross border transfers of guns and ammunition.

He said Johnson Smith has already submitted a proposal outlining the details of the cooperation surrounding the initiative to reduce the cross-border shipment of guns and ammunition.

Videgaray was on a two-day visit to Jamaica.
