Montague reports fewer cops leaving the police force

National Security Minister Robert Montague says for the first time in seven years, fewer cops are leaving the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

According to Montague, last year, a total of 360 cops left the JCF, that's 140 fewer than the annual average of 500 men and women separated each year through retirement, resignation, refusal for re-enlistment or dismissal.

The national security minister says he’s pleased with the reduction in the number of cops leaving the force..

Meanwhile, Montague said an exit survey has found that the main reason for cops leaving the force is their unfavourable working conditions.

He said the government is working on improving conditions noting that 47 police stations were repaired last year with more to be done this year.

Montague further said 430 cars were bought for the JCF this financial year and $1.1 billion is to be spent in the next financial year to buy more vehicles.
