A 13-year-old boy is among six people booked to appear in the Port Antonio Parish Court on Thursday on gun and ammunition charges.

The six were arrested in two separate incidents in the past three days.

In the first incident on Saturday, the police, acting on intelligence, searched a building at Bridge Street in Port Antonio shortly after 9 p.m., where they found two twelve-gauge cartridges in a house occupied by a man and a woman.

The two were arrested and charged with illegal possession of ammunition.

In the second incident on Monday, the police found a .38 revolver with nine live rounds at a house on Chilly Lane off Folly Road in Port Antonio.

Forty-five-year-old Donovan Simpson, two other adults whose identity are yet to be released, and a 13-year-old boy who were at the house were arrested on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

"We are going all out to contain crime in this parish," said Superintendent Dwayne Wellington, the commanding officer for Portland.

He said the police have intensified operations in the troubled spots and are aiming to remove all illegal fire-arms from the streets.

"Portland has the distinction of being the safest parish islandwide, and that will be preserved," Wellington said appealing to residents to be on the lookout for strangers and to report any suspicious activity.
