Deadly Fridays!

Fridays accounted for a majority of the road deaths recorded so far this year.

The Road Safety Unit in the Ministry of Transport reports that 161 persons have died in 137 fatal crashes this year and that 36 of those fatalities or 22 per cent occurred on a Friday.

According to the latest statistics released by the unit, 29 persons have died in motor vehicles crashes on Sundays, making it the second worst day of the week.

Wednesdays were next with 24, followed by Mondays with 21, Thursdays with 18 and Tuesdays with 17.

Saturdays had the fewest road deaths with 16.

Overall, the number of persons killed on the nation’s roadways this year has decreased by one per cent when compared with the corresponding period last year while fatal crashes are down eight per cent.

The statistics from the Road Safety Unit revealed that since January 1 no road deaths have been recorded in St Thomas and the Kingston Central Police Division.
