Sagicor Group Jamaica Vice-President, Group Marketing, Simone Walker (right) presents Ambassador Dr June Soomer, one of the seven University of the West Indies (UWI) alumni, with the distinguished UWI Alumni Association Pelican Award for her excellence in diplomacy, public service and the promotion of regionalism. Dr Soomer, from St Lucia, is the first female to graduate with a doctorate in history from the Cave Hill Campus of The UWI. A former ambassador of St Lucia to the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, she currently serves as secretary general of the Association of Caribbean States and as chair of The UWI Open Campus Council. Sagicor Group Jamaica sponsored the weeklong activities to the tune of $1.5 million in celebration of the UWI’s 70th anniversary.
