Traffic diversion on Constant Spring Road today

Road expansion work underway on Constant Spring Road, St Andrew.

With sewer installation works now completed along some sections of Constant Spring Road in St Andrew, including the areas between Olivier and Grants Pen roads and Midland Drive and Dunrobin Avenue, activities will now be shifted to the section from Grants Pen Road to Shortwood Road.

The National Works Agency (NWA) is to begin works to install National Water Commission sewer line and potable water pipelines in the area today. To facilitate these works, motorists travelling from the direction of Mary Brown's Corner will be diverted on to West Avenue, then on to Central Avenue, to exit on to Constant Spring Road in the vicinity of Telstar Cable Limited.

The opposite will obtain for persons travelling north towards Mary Brown's Corner. Persons using Grants Pen Road will only be able to make a right turn to get on to Constant Spring Road.

Acting manager, communication and customer services at NWA, Ramona Lawson, said the works will be effected within 12 days and traffic should return to using the section of roadway on August 13.

She added that on completion of this latest bit of pipe-laying works, an additional 220 metres of pipelines and sewer main would have been installed along the corridor.

Lawson explained that the improvement of the sewer-collection system, drainage and water pipelines comprise a critical component of the Constant Spring Road Improvement Project and accounts for a significant portion of the general works being done.

"The project is currently focused primarily on pipe-laying activities, which to date is overall 40 per cent complete," she said.

"Motorists are again being reminded to approach and drive through active construction zones adhering to the posted speed limit of 30 km/h and obeying the instructions of flag persons and posted warning signs."
