Fairy Hill Commons lots go on sale
Ground was broken on August 9 signalling the availability of 31 lots at Fairy Hill Commons, Portland, which are now on sale to prospective landowners.
The picturesque property, which is nestled in the hills of Fairy Hill, has already attracted buyers who have not only pledged to begin construction of their dream homes shortly, but are excited about securing their own piece of earth.
"I am happy today that I am the holder of a piece of land," commented Horace Mullings, one of the lot owners.
"It's like a dream come true. And, finally, I will be able to occupy my own home with my family, which to me is a remarkable achievement. When I first heard about land being for sale in Portland I hurriedly travelled to Jamaica from Canada, as I needed my own property in the land of my birth. I was reminded by the operators that all effort should be made to preserve the trees and lush vegetation during the period of construction," he added.
The 12-and-a-half acre property is being developed by SW Development and SUD Rock Construction as a gated community, and the subdivision will be retrofitted with the basic amenities, including roadlight, water, and a recreational area for the children.
PRESERVING THE NATURAL LOOK
One of the developers, Clive White, who was obviously captivated by the large turnout of residents, bankers, real estate representatives, environmental groups and civil-society groups, spoke about the need to preserve the natural look of the property, especially during the construction phase.
"Housing development is important to just about everyone. Our contractor has committed to the construction of a roadway of the highest quality with adequate drainage system in place. The infrastructure, as it relates to water and electricity, will be put in place, and it is expected that each homeowner will put in place their own storage tank for emergency purposes. There is an arrangement between us and the National Water Commission to provide piped water to the area," he further said.
A citizens' association is to be formed among the property owners, following the completion of the sale of the properties, which will allow for the management and maintenance of the community.
