Kingston Municipal Corporation to remove illegal signs
The Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) will be removing illegal signs and billboards erected across the city.
Speaking at a recent meeting of the corporation, Mayor of Kingston Delroy Williams said that an audit is being undertaken to determine the compliance rate among advertisers.
"We have been comparing what we have in the field with what is here in terms of the signs and billboards that have gone through the proper approval process," the mayor said.
Williams is calling on persons and business operators to adhere to the rules of the KSAMC, adding that letters encouraging compliance have been written to persons or companies that have erected signs and billboards without following the proper procedure.
"We have asked them to make the necessary applications for them to be reviewed by the appropriate committee. If that is not done within the prescribed time, the KSAMC has no option but to begin to take down those signs and billboards," he said.
The mayor is encouraging residents and businesses across the municipality to abide by the rules of the KSAMC.
"To restore order and to have order in our city, we must follow procedure, we must follow process, and all our residents must do this. If this is not occurring, as a municipality, we have to take action," he said.
