Minister of Education Senator Ruel Reid has given instructions for all employees of his ministry to be trained and certified.

Speaking at a ceremony last week at the Mona Visitor's Lodge where a summary of the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination, Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate and City and Guild Results were released, the minister said the government was moving to have a more skills-based workforce.

Reid said steps have already been taken by the permanent secretary to engage each employee of the ministry.

"There must be no worker in our ministry who is not trained and certified and the permanent secretary has begun that programme to engage every person, every category of worker along the path of education and training...," Reid declared.

He said, ideally, the next move was to ensure that all government workers get at least 30 hours of professional development each year.
