UWI At 70 | Meet Guest Editor Dr Michael Bucknor

On September 3, The Gleaner will partner with The University of the West Indies for a special guest editors' edition. It's part of our recognition of the 70th anniversary of the University of the West Indies. The institution, with its main campuses in Jamaica, Barbados, and Trinidad and Tobago has helped to shape significant elements of Caribbean history. Today, we share five things about another of our guest editors, Dr Michael Bucknor.

1. Dr Michael A. Bucknor is a senior lecturer in the Department of Literatures in English and Public Orator of the Mona Campus at the University of the West Indies (UWI).

2. A First Class Honours graduate of the UWI, Bucknor completed his Master of Arts and PhD at the University of Western Ontario (Canada) on a Commonwealth Scholarship.

3. He has been the Chief Judge for the Commonwealth Writers' Prize, the Una Marson Prize and the OCM BOCAS Prose Prize.

4. Bucknor sits on the editorial board of Caribbean Quarterly, Lacayos, and Issues in Critical Investigation, and is senior editor of the Journal of West Indian Literature.

5. His research interests include Caribbean/Canadian writing and he is now completing a manuscript titled, Performing Masculinities in Jamaican Popular Culture.
