INDECOM identifies cops involved in motorcyclist body slamming incident

The Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) says it has identified the two policemen involved in an incident caught on video in which one of them appears to body slam a female motorcyclist to the ground.

The oversight body has, however, declined to reveal their names or the divisions to which they are assigned.

Denyelle Anderson, senior public relations officer at INDECOM, says the policemen have been asked to provide statements setting out their account of what happened this week.

Anderson said after receiving the statements arrangements will be made to have them interviewed.

INDECOM says it has already received a video recording of the incident as well as a statement from the motorcyclist detailing her account of the August 17 encounter with the policemen along a section of the St Catherine leg of the Mandela Highway.

A video of the incident posted on YouTube appears to show one of the cops grabbing the woman in the chest area and then slamming her to the ground before dragging her motionless body across the road surface.

Eyewitnesses claim she was hit from her motorcyclist by a car in which the policemen were travelling.
