Crowd gathered in Port Antonio ahead of PM's arrival
A growing crowd of people clad in green is now gathering in Port Antonio square in Portland in anticipation of the arrival of Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Leader and Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
Holness is expected to officially present Annmarie Vaz, wife of West Portland Member of Parliament (MP) Daryl Vaz, as the JLP candidate for East Portland in the next parliamentary election, which is constitutionally due in 2021.
Vaz is expected to face off with a yet-to-be-named candidate for the People's National Party (PNP). The sitting MP, the PNP's Dr Lynvale Bloomfield, is expected to make way for a new representative when the next general election is called.
Bloomfield, who is a two-term MP having won the seat in 2011 and 2016, was reportedly instructed by the party hierarchy to make way for a new representative.
