MANDEVILLE, Manchester:
A taxi driver who plies the Knockpatrick to Mandeville route is now in hospital treating gunshot wounds after men posing as passengers attacked him demanding that he hand over his car.

According to sources close to the victim,  sometime after 4 pm,  the driver, who was on his way from Mandeville stopped along Manchester Road near the Jamaica Defence Force outpost and picked up two passengers.

Upon entering the car, one of the men reportedly pulled a gun and demanded that the driver hand over the vehicle.

The driver later drove the car into the 'keep left' concrete median, to raise alarm and was subsequently shot in his upper body by one of the men.

The men fled the scene on foot.

The driver was rushed to the hospital where he is currently being treated.

The area has been cordoned off by the police and persons entering and exiting the town of Mandeville are being instructed to use deCarteret Road or other routes.
