Councillor for the Crofts Hill division in Clarendon, Anthony O'Connor is calling for urgent attention to be given to the installation of street lights in the area.

Addressing the monthly sitting of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation on Thursday, O'Connor said every week multiple robberies with high powered weapons are taking place in the area.

He urged Association of Local Government Authorities president and Mayor of May Pen, Winston Maragh to "put pressure" on the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) to rectify the problem of lack of street lights.

"I don't want you to sit, I want to hear your voice saying, 'now you're collecting, we need some new lamps to put in the divisions," he said, alluding to the news report that the government had cleared its $7 billion debt to the JPS.

O'Connor informed that there are some areas in the division that are so dark and vulnerable that robbers are capitalising on it.

He said not even the churches are safe as even those going to church are being robbed. O'Connor added that living in Jamaica under such condition is untenable.
