13 people arrested in two incidents, firearms seized

Thirteen people have been arrested in two separate incidents in the past 48 hours in which two illegal firearms were seized.

In the more recent incident today, five men were taken into custody after a .22 calibre handgun with an empty magazine was found in the white Mitsubishi motorcar in which they were travelling on Red Hills Road, St Andrew.

The Constant Spring Police say about 12:10 a.m., a team was conducting vehicle check point operations when the car transporting the five men was stopped.

The police say the occupants and the motor vehicle were searched and the weapon found.

A day earlier, the St. James police reportedly seized one .45 pistol along with nine .45 rounds of ammunition during an operation in Retirement district in Granville.

The police say about 7:20 a.m., a team was conducting operations in Retirement when a house was searched and the firearm and ammunition found inside a clothes basket.

Eight persons, including three juveniles and two females were taken into custody.

The police say they are conducting further investigations before laying charges.
