A large contingent of security personnel has blanketed Independence Park, the location of the National Arena, where the Jamaica Labour Party's (JLP) 75th annual conference is currently under way.

Security personnel from all ranks in the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) are currently stationed at every entrance point to the National Arena. A police armoured vehicle  is currently stationed at the entrance to the National Indoor Sports Arena, surrounded by armed members of the police Riot Squad from Mobile Reserve.

At least 50 cops are at the entrance to the arena where searches are being conducted for persons entering the conference.

Security personnel are also inside the building and they are reinforced by another massive contingent from Knightsman Security Company.

JLP Chairman Robert Montague said the police presence is purely a determination made by the JCF.

"The police make the determination on how many they will need. Additionally some areas are no longer accessible to the public so they would be there to reinforce that non entrance. Plus they are making  sure that the conference is incident free," Montague told the Gleaner a short while ago.

The day's proceedings are running behind schedule with devotions just completed as the arena begins to fill up.
