Jamaica is to get an Information and Communication Technology Authority.

Cabinet has approved the promulgation of legislation to establish the agency.

As part of the change, the current functions being executed by eGov Jamaica Limited and the Office of the Chief Information Officer are to be transferred to the proposed authority.

Cabinet said eGov Jamaica will be wound up to facilitate the move, noting that drafting instructions will be issued.

The establishment of the authority will underpin the government's drive for shared services across ministries, departments, and agencies.
