Secrecy clouds Cherry Gardens operation

Published:Saturday | January 5, 2019 | 5:40 PM

There is still no official word from Jamaican law enforcement authorities one day after residents in the Upper St Andrew community of Cherry Gardens reported that a man was apprehended there in what appeared to be a massive police-military operation.

The operation was conducted at a house located along Russell Heights, residents told The Gleaner.

One resident reported that heavily-armed police and soldiers entered the home by climbing the perimeter fence.

The resident said before entering the premises, members of the joint police-military team appeared to be looking at a picture.

Minutes later the man was reportedly taken from the house in handcuffs.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) Corporate Communications Unit said today it had no knowledge of the operation.

Repeated attempts to get information from senior police officers have been met with silence.
