The police are now trying to locate a three-week-old child who was taken from the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St James by a woman.

The newborn has been identified as Vernesha Evans.

The incident reportedly happened shortly before 2p.m. yesterday.

According to the police, Vernesha’s mother left her child with the unidentified woman and went to use the bathroom.

When she returned, the police say, the woman and the baby were gone.

The police, in their attempt to locate Vernesha, have posted a screen shot picture of the woman they have described as the “primary suspect.”

They are asking members of the public who can identify her to call 876-952-4997, 876-952-3572 or police emergency number 119.

A picture of the three-week-old baby has also been posted to the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Twitter account.
