Former councillor of the Ensom City Division in St Catherine Barrington Bailey was today granted $150,000 bail when he appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court.

The 40-year-old is charged with illegal possession of a firearm.

In making the bail application, his attorney Tom Tavares-Finson told the court that his client is not a flight risk.

He is to return to court on March 20.

The police reported that Bailey was accosted during a joint police-military checkpoint in Innswood on Old Harbour Road, Spanish Town in St Catherine on Sunday, February 10.

They say an Acura motorcar he was driving was signalled to stop.

The police say he complied and he accounted for a licensed firearm.

They say an illegal Taurus 9 millimetre pistol was also found.

Bailey was arrested and later charged.
