Grammy-winning American superstar R Kelly has been offered bail in the sum of US$1 million.

The bail offer came during a brief court appearance in the city of Chicago, in the United States (US) one day after the R & B singer was charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Prosecutors revealed that the alleged incidents occurred between 1998 and 2010.

Court documents revealed, too, that at least three of the victims were between 13 and 16 years old at the time of their alleged assaults.

Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx said Kelly could face a maximum of seven years in prison for each count.

According to prosecutors, at least four of the cases involve minors.

The 52-year-old entertainer, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, has faced decades of sexual abuse claims involving underage girls.

He has never been convicted and has denied all the allegations.

He turned himself in to Chicago Police yesterday after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
