Prisoner disarms and shoots policeman, now on the run
A police manhunt has been launched for a male prisoner who disarmed a policeman, shot him, and then escaped with his service weapon.
The escapee has been identified as Ricardo Richards otherwise called ‘Kaka’.
The police say the incident happened this afternoon at the National Chest Hospital in St Andrew, where Richards was taken for treatment.
Chairman of the South East Regional Health Authority, Wentworth Charles, told The Gleaner that the injured policeman was stabilised and then rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital for medical attention.
An appeal has been made by the police to the public for information leading to the capture of the escapee.
