Residents of Hertford, Westmoreland, protest bad roads
Residents of Hertford district in Westmoreland have blocked the main road to their community, impacting students who were scheduled to return to school for the new term.
The demonstration started about 8 a.m.
The residents claim that funding was allocated for repairs to the roadway from as far back as 2022, however, nothing has been done by the National Works Agency (NWA).
“We are at the front of the country, but are treated as if we are at the back. No road, no vote,” they shouted while demonstrating.
The member of parliament for the area is George Wright.
A teacher affected by the blockade, J Anthony Clarke, described the situation as bad, stating that the roads have been in a deplorable condition for years.
“This is a necessary protest, they are crying out for help, but I have asked them to abide by the law. We are appealing to the authorities to sort this out, so that the children can get to school and the workers can get to work,” he stated.
