PNP calls for heightened safety precautions on campaign trail
The opposition People's National Party (PNP) says Thursday's incident in which a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporter was seriously injured in St Thomas underscores the crucial need for heightened safety precautions during the campaign period.
It is reported that a JLP motorcade was heading towards Morant Bay about 4 p.m., following nomination day activities, when one of the trucks taking part collided with another vehicle while negotiating a corner.
A woman's leg was reportedly severed during the crash.
A man was also hurt in the crash.
Sandra Anderson, PNP Councillor Candidate for the Cedar Valley Division in St Thomas Western, expressed sympathy to the injured woman in a media release and wished her a swift recovery.
"Despite our political differences, let's join hands and rally behind the injured lady. Our humanity should always prevail over partisan lines."
“This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the uncertainties and unexpected challenges inherent in election campaigns. It underscores the crucial need for heightened safety precautions to ensure the well-being and security of all participants in the political process,” she further stated.
