Golding appeals for safer motorcades following deadly fall by teen in Portmore
People's National Party (PNP) president Mark Golding on Sunday urged party supporters at a mass meeting in Newland, Portmore, St Catherine to exercise discipline when travelling in large motorcades.
Golding, visibly shaken by the death of 15-year-old Lamar Grey who tragically lost his life when he fell from a moving minibus in a PNP campaign motorcade in Southboro, Portmore yesterday, addressed supporters after the incident with a heavy heart.
He expressed profound sorrow for Grey's untimely passing.
"My heart aches for Lamar Grey, and my deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and the entire Gulf community," Golding lamented, emphasising the need for discipline on the roads during such large-scale events.
"In his memory, we must strive for better," Golding urged, rallying supporters to honour Grey's memory by securing victory for the PNP in the upcoming local government election.
Describing Grey as an up-and-coming comrade, the PNP president said he symbolised the hopes and aspirations of the youth within the party.
The circumstances surrounding Grey's demise cast a sober light on the dangers of recklessness during motorcade celebrations.
Reports indicated that Grey was hanging from an open door on a minibus and fell from the moving vehicle, tragically striking his head on the pavement.
Despite the sombre tone, Golding remained resolute in the party's mission, assuring supporters of the forthcoming release of the PNP's local government election manifesto today or tomorrow.
Confident in its progressive agenda, Golding declared that the manifesto would elevate local government to new heights, promising a platform of policies and programmes aimed at addressing community needs.
In an important moment, Golding introduced the councillor candidates who would carry the torch forward in Grey's memory, vowing to continue the fight for a brighter future for Portmore.
