Clarendon double murder linked to failed drug deal

The community of Banks in Clarendon was rocked by a daylight double murder on Wednesday.  

The victims have been identified as 28-year-old Tevin Ofield, a labourer of Gimme-Me-Bit, Clarendon, and 24-year-old Brandon Thompson of a Haylesfield, Race Course address in the parish.

The Police have theorised that the murders stemmed from a failed drug deal involving an attempt to pass off flour as cocaine.

Reports are that about 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, residents heard several loud explosions and summoned the police.

On arrival of the lawmen, a search was conducted and a body was found in a ditch with gunshot wounds to the torso. A second body was found in bushes with gunshot wounds to the head, back and left hand.

Both were pronounced dead at hospital. 

Sleuths say the Banks community, located in the southern section of the parish, is an area of concern, stating that it is home to several persons of interest and "influential violence producers".

The Gleaner was also told that intelligence continues to link several persons in the area to the illegal drugs for guns trades. 

Fifteen people were murdered in Clarendon up to March 23.
