Customers of the National Water Commission (NWC) served by the Constant Spring facility in St Andrew are being advised to prepare for water supply regulations come Monday.

The NWC says while it has sought to keep 24/7 operations at its Corporate Area facilities since the effects of the ongoing dry spell started a few months ago, demand for water is threatening to deplete storage levels at a very fast rate.

It notes that, as at Tuesday, the storage level at the Hermitage Dam, which serves the Constant Spring plant, stood at 71.4 per cent or 281.1 million gallons. The Mona Reservoir is at 74.2 per cent or 600.3 million gallons.

The NWC says given the smaller capacity of the Hermitage Dam and a faster rate of fall, it now has no choice but to commence the implementation of scheduled water supply.

It asserts that this will ensure that there is a predictable and equitable delivery of water as it continues to manage the drought impacted sources.

It says areas located below the Ministry of Justice on Constant Spring Road will have water from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., while those located above the ministry will receive water from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The NWC says where necessary, trucking arrangements will be mobilised to supply areas that cannot be served from the pipeline network.

It adds that there will also be close monitoring the storage levels at the Mona Reservoir where regulations might become necessary if the levels get to 65 per cent.
