The Overseas Examinations Commission (OEC) has withheld comment on the outcome of a probe into the massive Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) fraud at Steer Town Academy in St Ann, but has underscored the critical necessity for all schools to rigorously follow established security regulations.

Members of the school board voted to have the school's principal, Sharn Mangol, and exam coordinator, Andre Yeeshui, removed from the institution following a disciplinary hearing.

In a media release on Thursday morning, the OEC said it was made aware of the decision but "will not comment on that decision at this time".

"We take seriously any allegation of examination irregularities and are committed to upholding the highest standards and international best practices in exercising our duty as examination proctors," it continued.

The OEC reiterated its expectations for the security of the management of examination materials at schools for upcoming exams in 2024.

Brian Bennett-Easy, Chairman of the OEC, underscored the critical necessity for all schools to rigorously follow the established Examination Centre Regulations.

He pointed out that these guidelines, “approved by the Commission, are instrumental in averting any breaches and guaranteeing equitable and secure testing conditions for students throughout the island”.

Bennett-Easy also cautioned school administrators about "the broader regional consequences of any deviations, emphasising their pivotal role in upholding the integrity of the examination process.”

The OEC urged all schools to familiarise themselves with their responsibilities as examination centres and to implement all necessary security measures to prevent any irregularities.
