Man fatally shot during attempted robbery of taxi in Clarendon

A man who attempted to rob a taxi driver and passengers in Clarendon last night was disarmed by the cabbie and fatally shot during a struggle.

The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old labourer Bobby Bruce of Frazer Content in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

It is reported that about 8:20 pm, the taxi was travelling along a roadway when upon reaching 19 Miles Bruce attempted to rob the driver and passengers.

The driver reportedly disarmed the would-be robber of a loaded Taurus nine millimetre pistol and a struggle ensued, during which Bruce was shot.

He was taken to the May Pen Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

The weapon was subsequently handed over to the May Pen police.

The incident unfolded two days after a gunman shot and killed a taxi operator in Linstead, St Catherine.
