The roadway at Castleton in St Mary which was blocked by a fallen tree Sunday morning, has been cleared and reopened to vehicular traffic.

Residents, the police, the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited, the National Works Agency and Member of Parliament Dr Norman Dunn worked to clear the debris.

The blockage caused by the tree, which reportedly came crashing down shortly after 6 a.m. Sunday, forced the police to divert traffic through Gibbs Hill and Golden Valley.

Dunn, who visited the area earlier Sunday, praised the "collaborative effort on the part of residents, a state-run agency, the security force, and corporate Jamaica” in addressing the emergency situation.

“It is a busy thoroughfare and any delay in clearing that roadway would have led to a disruption in commerce and education. And therefore realising the importance of this roadway, they quickly collaborated in assisting with the clearance. This is a rather commendable move on the part of all the parties," Dunn pointed out.

In the meantime, the Jamaica Public Service is now working to restore power to Castleton and other affected areas where service was disrupted due to downed power lines.
