Hanover tour bus operator charged with rape

A  Hanover tour bus operator was arrested and charged with rape following an incident in the parish on March 10.

Thirty-six-year-old Mervin Jarrett, of New Mills district, was arrested by detectives assigned to the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA).

He was also charged with abduction, assault at common law and possession of prohibited weapon.

The police say about 8:45 p.m., Jarrett picked up a woman at a bus stop, drove her to a house in the parish and brandished a firearm before sexually assaulting her.

A report was later made to the police and Jarrett was arrested and charged.

His court date is being finalised.
