While eastern Jamaica is being drenched by rain and rocked by strong winds, things have been quiet in Hanover as Hurricane Beryl makes its way from east to west.

Acting chief executive officer of the Hanover Municipal Corporation, Romeo Daley, told The Gleaner that “all is well”, and he is hoping that it remains that way.

“We have not gotten any call about needing to open any shelter as yet. All shelter managers have been engaged and are on alert, and we would have issued emergency supplies between yesterday and today,” he stated.

He said that the number of identified emergency shelters within the parish remain at 55, and that the disaster preparedness coordinator for the parish, Annisha Spence, has been in touch with all shelter managers.

“We have only been getting a slight drizzle from morning and we are watching the situation and hoping that it remains the same,” he stated.

Checks made by The Gleaner have revealed that fisherfolk have yielded to warnings issued, and have brought their vessels to safe grounds.
