The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says it is pausing efforts to restore power to areas where service has been disrupted because of the deteriorating weather conditions.

"Our teams have been making every effort to restore supply to customers who lost service. But as the effects of Hurricane Beryl become more serious, we'll have to pause restoration, as it is becoming unsafe to continue working," it said in an update on social media.

It noted that the safety of its workers is the number one priority at this time.

JPS said its teams are on standby to start power restoration as soon as it is safe to do so, after the passage of the hurricane.
