Lawmen assigned to the St Catherine South Police Division apprehended and formally charged 39-year-old Glenford Smith of Caribbean Estate, St Catherine following an incident on Friday, June 7, during which Smith attempted to bribe the police.

Reports from the Portmore Police are that Smith was driving a Nissan AD motorcar when he committed breaches of the Road Traffic Act, specifically obstructing traffic and failing to wear a seat belt.

While Smith was being informed of the violations and advised of prosecution, he reportedly offered a bribe of $5,000 to a member of the police team to avoid the consequences.

Smith was taken into custody and subsequently charged.

He was brought before the St Catherine Parish Court where he was found guilty of the offences and ordered to pay a fine of $200,000.
