NWC working to restore water to all customers

The National Water Commission (NWC) says it is working diligently to restore regular water supply to its valued customers following the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

The company said earlier today it begun critical assessment of all potable water supply systems to facilitate the earliest resumption to full operations.

“It is to be noted that some facilities remain inaccessible due to blocked roadways, power outages, and dislocated pipelines. In Portland and St Thomas, a parish-wide power outage is affecting all NWC facilities, as is the case for sections of most southern parishes,” the utility company said in a press release today.

The company said it is working closely with the Jamaica Public Service Company, the National Works Agency, the municipal corporations, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, and other partner entities, to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.

“For the interim, the company has also mobilised the use of generators for its major systems to restart, or continue operations. Further updates will be communicated, as more information becomes available and the assessments are advanced,” said the agency.

It said three major systems – Mona, Hope and Great River – have been checked and re-started, and a further 23 other systems have also been checked and cleared for JPS resumption.

“The NWC is making every effort to have our systems back up and running in the shortest possible time. We crave your patience and understanding at this time and is very appreciative of you, our valued customers,” NWC said.
