Prime Minister Andrew Holness is commending the Hanover police for achieving an 11 per cent reduction in murders in the parish so far this year.

Holness visited Hanover today hand over houses to several Jamaicans in need under the Government's New Social Housing Programme.

The prime minister also stopped at Johnson Town in the parish, which was recently the scene of a triple murder.

Head of the Hanover police, Superintendent Andrew Nish, said the police have put strategies in place to contain the violence in the area.

"We have other challenges in terms of different locations, such as Green Island but with hardworking men and women in the Hanover division, I promise you sir that we will be able to ensure that we have public safety and security at our interest at all times," Nish told the prime minister.

In commending the Hanover police, Holness said "I am very happy to see that you have strategies in place to manage the displacement that happens from the other two parishes [Westmoreland and St James] and to keep whatever gang activities that are resident here under control."
