Amid ongoing restoration efforts, telecommunications company Flow says it may take an estimated four weeks for works to be completed to restore services to communities that received the most damage as a result of Hurricane Beryl.

The company did not identify the areas.

Flow says restoration work on fixed services, i.e. Internet, voice, cable, is ongoing across all parishes with St Thomas, Portland, St James, and St Catherine having the largest percentage of restored communities, while St Elizabeth, Manchester, and Trelawny have the least.

As of Tuesday July 16, the company says mobile service is available to 90 per cent of its customers, up from 77 per cent following the immediate passage of the hurricane.

This, it says, has been bolstered by the restoration of more than 200 cell sites since July 4.

On its fixed network, Flow says 193,000 customers were impacted by the hurricane and approximately 158,000 customers (82%) have been restored.

The company says the repair of its network continues to be hampered by theft and vandalism, which includes theft of generators and fuel that powers the generators, as well as blocked roadways and damaged fibre cables.

Flow says it remains resolute in returning service to as many customers in the shortest possible time.
