Three candidates were today nominated to contest the September 30 by-election in St Ann North East.

They are Matthew Samuda of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), Chase Albert Neil of the United Independents Congress, and independent David Fritz Anderson, who is a former member of the People's National Party (PNP).

The PNP had said that it would not contest the by-election.

All three candidates have expressed confidence of victory.

Samuda is expected to retain the seat for the JLP, especially in the absence of the main opposition PNP.

His nomination saw a turnout of JLP stalwarts including party leader, Prime Minister Andrew Holness and party chairman Robert Montague.

The seat became vacant following the resignation of the JLP's Marsha Smith.
