Police probing viral incident involving students at primary school in Portland

The police say the students involved in the altercation have been identified and their parents notified.

The police are reporting that investigators in Portland are probing an assault incident at a primary school which was captured on video and has since gone viral.

In the video, which has been making the rounds on social media platforms, a boy is seen being punched and kicked by a bigger boy.

Some of the students who were standing by were heard shouting "leave him alone!"

The police indicated that after being made aware of the video, school resource officers attached to the Portland Community Safety and Security Branch visited the school today.

The students involved in the altercation were identified and their parents notified, the police stated.

According to the police, the students involved are ages 9, 10 and 12.

Earlier today, the Child Protection and Family Services Agency indicated that was sending a team to the school to provide counselling.

It condemned the incident.
