An American man was ordered to pay a fine of $350,000 or spend 30 days in prison after he was held with 15 rounds of ammunition at the Sangster International Airport in St James on Friday.

He is 29-year-old Joshua Logan, a salesman of Atlanta, Georgia.

The Freeport police say about 11:00 a.m., security officers were conducting routine screening of outgoing passengers when Logan was summoned.

The ammunition was reportedly found after a physical search of his black travelling bag.

Logan was arrested and charged with unauthorised possession of ammunition.

He was placed before the St James Parish Court on the same day and pleaded guilty to the offence.
