RJRGLEANER Communications Group flattens executive management structure

Radio Jamaica Limited, the parent company of the RJRGLEANER Communications Group, has advised that, as part of an overall change to its operating model and an ongoing operations review to improve efficiency in its business, it has made the deputy chief executive officer (DCEO) and the chief people officer (CPO) positions in its executive structure redundant, with effect from October 1.

The decision means that DCEO for Broadcast and Content Strategy, Dr Claire Grant, and CPO, Tanya Smith-Anderson, both left the group on that date. The position of DCEO for print and digital strategy has been vacant since January and will be eliminated going forward.

Chief Executive Officer Anthony Smith, in making the announcement, thanked Grant and Smith-Anderson each for their more than 15 years of service to the group, noting that their contributions over the years have helped build the organisation.

“Both Mrs Smith-Anderson and Dr Grant have made significant contributions to the group and to the media industry in Jamaica and the Caribbean. For example, Dr Grant has worked at The Gleaner, TVJ and in radio, and has served as president of the MAJ (Media Association Jamaica Ltd) and CBU (Caribbean Broadcasting Union),” Smith said. “So, we thank them for the vital contribution that they have made to the group and the wider society. The changes that are being made, though, are an important part of our ongoing effort to transform the group – making it more efficient, agile and profitable, while maintaining our strong performance in the various media segments. The current changes are designed to flatten the organisation structure, bringing the organisation closer to our audiences and our advertisers, while saving costs.”

Smith asserted that the RJRGLEANER Communications Group remains committed to adapting to the changing market environment while working closely with its advertisers and all its other stakeholders.
