American man held with ammunition in luggage at airport fined $1 million

American veterinarian Clint Martin who was arrested and charged this month after a magazine with 12 rounds of ammunition was found in his luggage at the Sangster International Airport in St James today pleaded guilty to the charges.
He was fined $500,000 or six months' imprisonment for unauthorised possession of a firearm and $500,000 or six months' imprisonment for unauthorised possession of ammunition.
The case was transferred today from the Western Regional Gun Court to the St James Parish Court where Martin pleaded guilty.
Martin, 35, who is from Tennessee, was arrested and charged on October 3 and was granted bail six days later.
Attorney-at-law Charles Gang-Singh made an impassioned plea for the most lenient sentence.
Martin, who was also represented by attorney-at-law Henry McCurdy left the island today shortly after paying the fines.
