Insurance giant Sagicor Jamaica paid out approximately $400 million for cancer care between January and July this year.

Cancer coverage accounted for the largest chunk of the $620 million Sagicor paid out for critical illnesses over the seven-month period, according to Tamesha Byght-Jones, financial adviser at the Mandeville Business Centre in Manchester.

Sagicor paid out $1.2 billion for critical illnesses in 2023, including approximately $750 million for cancer.

Byght-Jones was speaking today at the 11th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Symposium put on the Janette Kaloo Breast Cancer Foundation at the Beyond Sunset Hotel in Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth.

She disclosed that Sagicor has a range of products that will help individuals defray the cost of cancer treatment, which can run into millions of dollars.

These include the Ultra Lifeline Plan, which covers 30 critical illnesses and the Total Woman Plan, which covers 15 critical illnesses.
