Chuck says, contrary to PNP claims, ‘money a jingle’ in people’s pockets

Justice Minister Delroy Chuck has urged Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters to counter what he says is a People's National Party (PNP) narrative that things are slow in the country, asserting that “money a jingle” in people's pockets.

Chuck, who was speaking on Sunday at a meeting of the party's Area Council 1 in St Andrew North Eastern where he is the member of parliament, said businesses are booming countrywide.

He said in previous years, Cabinet met on a Monday to seek to revive the economy destroyed by PNP administrations, but it is now looking to put policies and programmes in place to make Jamaica better.

“Five years ago, eight years ago when we sat in Cabinet it is to recover from the PNP, because them mess up the country and we had to put things in place. It hurts me more than anything else Labourites when I hear PNP say nothing nah gwaan,” said Chuck.

He said that argument contradicts the heavy vehicular traffic seen across the country, noting that in the last eight years, some 500,000 new cars have gone on the roads.

Added to that, he said hardware stores and fast food restaurants are packed, indicating that there is money being spent.

“You have never seen so much business in these places. All of the hardware stores tell me they've never had business so good as in the last eight years. So something a gwaan. Labourites, when you stop at the fast food places, you never see more long lines. Every fast food place have long line because people have money in them pocket can spend on fast food.

“I say to you Labourites, we must get rid of the lies. Mash up the lies that the PNP telling 'bout nothing nah gwaan. A whole heap a things going on. I can tell you Labourites all across the country people are supporting hardware stores; supporting the fast food places because money a jingle in their pockets,” Chuck said.

He said it is “PNP propaganda” that is giving the impression that there are economic challenges. He asserted that no other administration has done more for Jamaica than the Andrew Holness-led government.

Pointing to an increase in the construction of houses and infrastructural development, Chuck said Jamaicans should be proud of the prime minister and his administration.
